In 2025, Reemoon Technology Co.,Ltd. successfully delivered and commissioned a customized four-lane apple sorting line in Nelson, New Zealand. The equipment officially began operating during this year's fruit season, from February to June, significantly improving efficiency and ensuring quality for Wairepo Holdings Ltd.
Wairepo is a century-old family orchard run by fourth-generation orchardists Simon and Matthew Easton. Matthew said, "To meet the demands of modern production, we urgently needed efficient and intelligent sorting equipment."
"After conducting thorough market research and comparing several suppliers, we ultimately chose Reemoon. The key factor in our decision was its Infruscan internal quality inspection system—a globally recognized technology that accurately detects internal physiological defects such as core mold and browning in apples," Matthew explained.
Customizing an efficient and intelligent sorting line for customers
According to Jonny, Reemoon Headquarters' representative in New Zealand, "The new equipment has a designed capacity of 20 tons per hour. It integrates high-precision weighing, the Fruscan visual defect recognition system, and the Infruscan non-destructive internal quality testing system. The sorting line is equipped with AI deep learning technology, which automatically collects and learns defect data during operation, enabling continuous model optimization and increasing accuracy over time."
After a full season of use, Matthew expressed his satisfaction with the system's performance. "The Fruscan system uses high-speed cameras to scan rotating apples from multiple angles, identifying surface defects such as bruises, punctures, and calyx cracking. This allows accurate grading of apples into first-grade, second-grade, and off-grade categories. Meanwhile, the Infruscan system employs near-infrared spectroscopy to detect internal defects like browning and core mold with precision and efficiency. We have two or three varieties that require this level of internal quality inspection before packaging, and this sorting line has fully met that need."
To achieve this shared goal of precision sorting, Reemoon engaged in in-depth discussions with Wairepo during the initial stages of equipment design. According to Jonny, to further optimize the customer experience, Reemoon customized the packaging tables based on the factory's specific requirements. "We carefully considered the height and operating habits of the workers, adjusting both the height and structure of the tables. We also reserved space beneath each table for holding trays, which has significantly improved work efficiency." he said. Jonny emphasized
that Reemoon's goal is not only to provide equipment but also to ensure comfort and efficiency for its customers.
The customized design has significantly boosted sorting efficiency, which Matthew highly praised. He said, "The Reemoon sorting line has 24 outlets and a high processing capacity, easily handling around 240 boxes per day — a 30% to 40% increase in efficiency compared to our previous setup."
On-site Support
In addition to its advanced sorting technology and thoughtful customization, another major advantage of choosing Reemoon is its reliable, on-site support. "We have Reemoon technicians permanently stationed at the orchard to provide support and ensure smooth operation throughout the season," said Matthew.
Even more commendable is Reemoon's proactive approach to continuous improvement. "If the equipment needs improvement, Reemoon's technicians respond immediately and implement optimizations. I'm very satisfied with this," Matthew said.
Based on these outstanding experiences, Matthew concluded, "I would choose Reemoon again without hesitation. It fully meets many of our core needs and has become an indispensable and highly efficient tool in our orchard operations."
Currently, Reemoon's products are exported to 35 countries and regions. In Oceania, Reemoon has subsidiaries in both Australia and New Zealand and maintains local after-sales service teams in key fruit-producing areas. "We will establish more after-sales offices in New Zealand and maintain sufficient spare parts to ensure timely service response," Jonny concluded. "Reemoon will continue to focus on technological innovation and high-quality service, helping more fruit industry customers improve automation while achieving cost reduction and efficiency gains."
